2 - Position Description

The QA/QC associate is mainly responsible for the support of the Quality Department of the Vector Development Unit (VDU). VDU is a cleanroom facility producing proteins by fermentation and purification processes. The cleanroom and offices are located at UZ Brussel and VDU has a close collaboration with the Molecular Imaging and Therapy Research group (MITH), located at the Brussel Health Campus in Jette.
You contribute to the performance of the Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) tasks and activities following the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and according to predefined procedures and specifications under current Good Manufacturing Production (cGMP) guidelines. The QA/QC associate reports to the QA and QC Manager(s). Your time will be divided between the lab (QC) and the office (QA) (50/50).

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Execution of general administrative tasks at the VDU-VUB (purchase orders related to VDU activities, incoming goods control, supplier qualification, stock and waste management, printing, scanning and archiving of QMS related documents, ..)
  • Execution of laboratory analyses (such as SDS-PAGE, SEC, ELISA) and initiation and follow-up of outsourced activities.
  • Support in environmental monitoring; organizing lab requests and taking samples in the cleanroom according to protocol.
  • Support in the maintenance of the GMP Quality Management System of the VDU on the organizational and administrative level.
  • Writing and reviewing of documentation related to the GMP quality management system of VDU.
  • Communication and follow-up of complaints, change controls and deviations.
  • Support in qualification, maintenance planning, monitoring and logbooks of the infrastructure and equipment related to VDU.

For this position, the Brussels Health Campus in Jette will be your home base. Daily presence is mandatory for this function. Periodic home office days can be planned in alignment with the team.

3 - Profile

What do we expect from you?

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in life sciences (e.g. biomedical laboratory technology) or equivalent through experience.
  • You have relevant know-how or skills in laboratory techniques in general. Experience in GMP and protein characterization (SDS-PAGE, ELISA, Western Blotting, SEC,…) is an added value.
  • You have general knowledge of practical work and activities related to QA tasks and activities in GMP environment.
  • You have relevant knowledge of the quality management system and the application, related to guidelines, law, and policy, in particular regarding cGMP
  • You can adapt to changing circumstances, have a flexible mindset and can work effectively with diverse people. You can handle pressure and setbacks when things get busy or challenging.
  • You communicate smoothly with the quality team and colleagues involved in other tasks.
  • You have sense of responsibility and ability to collaborate and supervise.
  • You are eager to learn and open to follow relevant training courses.
  • You have strong communication skills in English; knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
  • You have good communication and social skills.
  • You feel comfortable in working with standard computer software (e.g. MS Office) or specific software packages and tools.

4 - Offer

  • The salary is linked to a ATP grade 4 or grade 5, depending on your competences and previous relevant work experience.
  • We offer a contract of 1 year - extendable
  • full-time contract (38 hours per week); however a part-time (80 or 90%) position is also possible.
