Postdoctoral scientific researcher 'Stem cell biology'

2 - Position description

The Faculteit Geneeskunde en Farmacie, Department Basis (bio)-medische wetenschappen, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher


More concretely your work package contains: 

  • You'll become a member of the stem cell lab of the research group Reproduction and Genetics of the VUB; 
  • Our lab is focusses on the study of genomic instability in human pluripotent stem cells (, and we are now initiating several research projects investigating the oncogenic potential of aneuploid pluripotent stem cell-derived cells;
  • You will develop an organoid-based models for cancer, and test the role of different genetic abnormalities in priming for oncogenic transformation; 


For this function, our Brussels Health Campus (Jette) will serve as your home base. 

3 - Profile

What do we expect from you?


  • You've attained a diploma of doctor in medical sciences, life sciences or equivalent; 

  • You have a sound scientific file, preferably with a background in stem cell biology, cancer biology or oncogenetics;
  • You have methodological skills mainly in the area of confocal microscopy, stem cell culture and differentiation, and molecular biology;
  • Interpretation of data; knowledge of bio-informatics (transcriptomics, genomics) is a plus;
  • You will be integrated in an international team, and therefore a good knowledge of (academic) English is a condition; 
  • You can organize your own work efficiently, and you will report on a regular basis to your PI;
  • You will assist the PI's of the group in project management, budgeting and obtaining funding; 
  • You can present your work in your own group, as well as in international meetings; 
  • You supervise on a daily basis a small group of PhD students and help them to achieve their goals;
  • You can make decisions independently, and will carry out those decisions; 
  • You are focused on your aims and your results; 
  • You possess the ability to solve problems; 

4 - Offer

Are you going to be our new colleague?


You’ll be offered a contract, for an assignment of 1 FTE, for 12 months (extendable, on condition of the positive evaluation of the research activities), with planned starting date 01/10/2021


You’ll receive a salary linked to one of the scales set by the government.
