Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Liver Cell Biology'

2 - Position description

The Faculteit Geneeskunde en Farmacie, Department Basis (bio)-medische wetenschappen, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a grant

 

More concretely your work package, for the validation of your doctoral research, contains: 


  • ​​​​​You will become a member of the Liver Cell Biology research group (LIVR) of Prof. Leo van Grunsven. Our lab studies molecular mechanisms involved in liver disease and liver regeneration, thereby making use of several mouse models as well as in vitro models of liver disease (for more information please visit https://livr.research.vub.be/). We recently initiated an interdisciplinary research project to investigate the role of blood vessels in orchestrating the development and morphogenesis of ectopic miniorgans, including liver; 
  • You will study ectopic miniorgan development in mouse liver and develop culture conditions to mimick this in vitro; 
  • You will determine how extracellular signaling molecules and mechanical forces direct miniorgan formation; 
  • You will closely collaborate with laboratories from the KULeuven university (Leuven, Belgium - Profs. Georg Halder en Hans Van Oosterwyck); 

 

For this function, our Brussels Health Campus (Jette) will serve as your home base. 

3 - Profile

What do we expect from you?

 

  • You've attained a diploma of doctor in medical sciences, life sciences or equivalent; 

 

  • You have a sound scientific file, preferably with a background in developmental biology, tissue culture engineering or mouse transgenics and published papers to proof this;
  • You are willing and capable of applying for personal fellowships (EU MSCA, FWO and others);
  • You have methodological skills in the area of microscopy, primary cell culture and differentiation, and molecular biology; 
  • Good knowledge of bio-informatics (transcriptomics) is a plus;
  • You have excellent (academic) English communication skills;
  • You have good (English) writing skills (manuscripts, reporting, funding applications);
  • You can organize your own work efficiently, and you will report on a regular basis to your PI;
  • You will assist the PI's of the group in project management and obtaining funding;
  • You can present your work in your own group, as well as in international meetings;
  • You possess the ability to solve problems and supervise a PhD candidate and/or technician and help them to achieve their goals;

 

  • You have not had a residence or employment in Belgium for a period exceeding 12 months in the 36-month period preceding the start date of the postdoctoral scholarship.

4 - Offer

You’ll be offered a full-time postdoctoral scholarship, for 12 months (extendable up to max. 36 months, on condition of the positive evaluation of the research activities), with planned starting date 01/11/2021

 

You’ll receive a grant linked to one of the scales set by the government.
