Lab Technician

2 - Position Description

The research group of Prof. Claudia Spits, Genetics, Reproduction and Development (GRAD), affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, at the Brussels Health Campus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Jette) is looking for a motivated lab technician. The candidate will be involved in supporting the research work performed by the group within its laboratories. We offer a dynamic and scientifically stimulating work environment within a young and motivated team.

3 - Profile

What do we expect from you?

The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences, or a related field. A professional FELASA A or B certification for animal work is also required.

The ideal candidate demonstrates:
• General experience in logistics & facility support, e.g. sterilising laboratory materials, organising waste disposal, and refilling liquid nitrogen tanks.
• Ability in handling administrative tasks, e.g. placing and tracking orders, and registering and processing invoices.
• Experience in solution preparation & lab work: preparing buffers and media, performing immunostainings, and maintaining organoid cultures.
• Experience in animal handling & record keeping: administering and handling laboratory animals ethically and maintaining accurate animal records.
• Good knowledge of English.
• Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, inventory systems).
• Strong communication, proactive attitude, and attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and expand personal expertise.

Are you going to be our new colleague? You’ll be offered a permanent full-time contract (1 year with possibility of extension) at a salary linked to Grade 4, depending on your competences and previous relevant work experience.
