Category:  Management & Professionals

1 - Working at the VUB

Are you our Flemish Supercomputer Centre Business Developer who will make the connection between companies and the VSC?

VUB is always looking for new talent to grow with us.

For almost 50 years, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel has stood for freedom, equality and connectedness. These values are strongly present on our campuses, in our students as well as our staff. At the VUB, you’ll find a diverse collection of personalities: pure innovators and especially people who are 100% their authentic selves. With about 4.000 employees, we are the largest Flemish-speaking employer in Brussels, an international city with which we are all too happy to be connected, and around which our four campuses are located.

The VUB is also a member of EUTOPIA, an alliance of ten like-minded European universities, all ready to reinvent themselves.

2 - Position Description

The VSC (Flemish Supercomputer Centre) supports the HPC (high performance computing) activities in all Flemish university and university associations  for more than 10 years. Within the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), the local VSC hub is part of the Scientific Data and Compute team (https://hpc.vub.be) which provides centralized services for scientific computing and data storage to the research community. The VSC hub at the VUB is responsible for the Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) office of the VSC. With the RDI office, we offer HPC services outside the academic world (companies, SMEs, etc.). A selection of the applications we support can be found at https://www.vscentrum.be/stories
The VSC is also part of the EuroCC Belgium (https://www.enccb.be), the Belgian National Competence Centre (NCC) for high performance computing, which promotes the adoption of HPC, AI, and advanced computing technologies by industry, academia, and the public sector. EuroCC Belgium operates within the framework of the European EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).

We are looking for a new colleague to join our team to work as a business developer, acting as a bridge between existing and new RDI users and the VSC. Within EuroCC Belgium, the selected candidate will lead the task on User Needs Analysis and Service Management, focusing on systematically supporting SMEs, large enterprises, and public administrations in accessing the most appropriate HPC and related services.

A quick look at your work package:

  • You will be responsible for connecting to new RDI users while identifying and understanding their needs or business cases.
  • You will develop and maintain a strong understanding of the EuroHPC JU ecosystem, including AI Factories (and their Antennas) and European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) and their respective roles, to effectively connect RDI users with complementary services and expertise.
  • You will follow up on new RDI leads.
  • You will design and use a structured feedback process to assess impact and drive service improvement, reporting, and user retention.
  • You will help translate computational problems into solutions built with VSC services.
  • Together with your colleagues, you will actively promote the VSC and the EuroHPC services at national and international events.
  • You will be responsible for reporting on intake of RDI users both at the European and Flemish level
  • You will provide input for the VSC and EuroCC Belgium marketing and documentation.
  • You will build a network with valorization offices at the university associations, spin-off communities, and other company hubs, such as (pre)incubators.
  • You will maintain and actively use the customer relationship management (CRM) system to manage and track interactions with RDI users and stakeholders.
  • You will monitor industry trends to stay informed and to adapt our outreach strategies accordingly.

For this function, our Campus in Etterbeek will serve as your home base (partially working from home is allowed).
